The Motherhood Café - Maternal Mental Health : Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder Awareness

Motherhood is often challenging. Beginning in pregnancy and continuing through the early postpartum days, we are adjusting to a new role, a new identity. Our life can feel constantly interrupted or out of our control. The way we see ourselves and even define our worth may change. It can become more difficult to prioritize self care. Finding time to evaluate our health, physical, mental and emotional, may seem impossible when managing the needs of an infant or a busy, growing family. However, being a mother shouldn’t mean that we neglect ourselves. Today we’re going to talk specifically about the mental health of mothers. We’ll touch on the symptoms of common disorders and challenges and chat with other mothers and professionals about the ways we can evaluate our health, and how to nurture ourselves while juggling the needs of our families.

Our programs are FREE and OPEN to the public. See details below for information regarding our FREE childcare, up to age four.

As always, we will also be broadcasting via Facebook Live!

Our Cafe mornings close with peer-led small groups on Pregnancy/Birth, Infancy (0-6 months, 6-12 months) and Parenting. During small group time, we are often able to offer Care Group for those walking through infertility, miscarriage and child loss.

Children under one, can stay right with you. For children between the ages of one and four, we offer FREE on-site childcare.

---Childcare slots are limited and registration is on a first come first serve basis. Childcare reservations will be accepted no sooner than a week prior to a Cafe event and can be made by e-mailing childcare@themotherhoodcollective.org with the following information:

  • Mother's full name/contact phone number/e-mail address

  • Child's full name

  • Child's Age and birth date

  • List any allergies or list "none"

  • First time in childcare: yes or no

Reservations will be secured in the order that they are received. Once childcare for the event is full, reservation requests will be added to the wait-list and mother will be informed if a slot becomes available. Thank you. Sleep is crucial for brain development and health! Often we spend our earliest days of motherhood in search of sleep and healthy routines for our infants. As our children grow, sleep continues to play an important role in our schedules and habits. How much sleep is best? What is sleep training? Do specialized sleep training methods work? We will talk to sleep expert Candy Beers-Kim about healthy attachment, how to sift through all the advice, and how to find the rhythms and practices that best fit your family.

The Motherhood Café - The Breastfeeding Cafe : A Practical Guide to How Things Work, Variations of Normal and When to Seek Help

The Motherhood Collective is not a “breastfeeding only” organization and we fully support all methods of infant feeding. The best baby is a FED baby and the way you feed your baby is your decision. However, we think breastfeeding is worthy of its own Cafe topic and hope that you find this morning’s information educational -- whether you breastfeed or not! This will be a morning of conversation with some of our area’s most knowledgeable breastfeeding resources. How does breastfeeding work? What should you expect in the earliest days? How do you know if you’re doing it right? What are common issues and how do you know if you have them? What kind of help is available? What are common misconceptions? We hope everyone will leave this topic having learned something new about breastfeeding!

Our programs are FREE and OPEN to the public. See details below for information regarding our FREE childcare, up to age four.

Adoption & Foster Care Support Group: Behavioral Challenges Part 1

While we can’t ignore or excuse the behavior that comes with the mad feelings, we can be compassionate and empathetic about the sadness they’re experiencing. We can choose to shift our focus from punishing the behavior to calming their big feelings and giving them a chance for a ‘re-do’ once things have settled down. Armed with these insights, we find ourselves more able to stay connected to our children.

Peer-to-peer support for women walking through every step of foster care and adoption. Supporting and educating women as we acclimate to life (in any season) with foster and adoptive children.

Offering the opportunity to validate experiences, share resources, and gain support and encouragement.

Join us on 2nd and 4th Mondays from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

The Motherhood Café - Understanding Miscarriage : Causes, Symptoms, Treatments and Finding Support

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Roughly 15 to 20 percent of all pregnancies in the United States end in miscarriage. It will be a morning of education, support, reassurance and healing conversation.

Our programs are FREE and OPEN to the public. See details below for information regarding our FREE childcare, up to age four.

The Motherhood Café - The Body Image Cafe : Embracing Who We Are

This is truly a topic for everyone! We're talking the good, the bad and the beautiful about our bodies. Our childbearing years bring many changes and often we're left with the physical reminders of the process. Perhaps not all of these changes are easy to love, but our bodies are strong, beautiful and all worthy of love. Share the morning with us as we chat openly about how to appreciate our bodies amid our culture of airbrushing and images of false perfection.

Adoption & Foster Care Support Group: Navigating the Birth Family Relationship, Part 2

Children and youth who have been adopted naturally have questions about their background and personal histories (Who am I? Who do I look like? Why was I adopted?). Through openness, adopted children and youth gain access to birth parents, and possibly grandparents and siblings, which removes the need to search and helps provide needed answers to compelling questions. Regular contact during childhood creates a base of familiarity and normalcy for adopted children so that they may connect more easily with their birth parents throughout their lives.

The Motherhood Café - Understanding Infertility

Infertility is defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after one year of unprotected intercourse. An estimated 1 in 8 couples experience infertility and although infertility is common, people often struggle silently. Infertility should not be taboo. We owe it to ourselves and our friends to learn about it -- and talk about it! Our panel will consist of women who have (or are) experiencing infertility, as well as fertility experts. Let's help to eliminate the stigma and bring light to this issue.

Our programs are FREE and OPEN to the public. See details below for information regarding our FREE childcare, up to age four.

Pack a snack or lunch and join us at 10:00 am  as we connect with one another. Your littles can play on a safe, gated playground and you can sit under the pavilion and catch up with friends or meet some new ones.

Children of ALL ages are welcome, even if they're too young to play on the playground!  Bring a friend, pack a lunch, and join this collective group of beautiful women.

Join us on 1st and 3rd Mondays from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
